Non-destructive testing.

Penetrant Testing

Penetrant inspection is to be done on non-ferrous alloys (non-magnetic) such as aluminum, 300 series stainless, titanium, inconel and so on. The fluorescent liquid penetrates deep into any defects open to the surface and are highly visible when viewed under a black light. This will occur with discontinuities such as porosity hair-line cracks and similar defects.

We have Level III employees in all listed methods on premise as well as (2) working Level II employees which enables or facility to have the fastest turn-around, as well as one of the most widely approved customer bases. We are on the approved vendor list of Boeing Corp., McDonnel Douglass, Grumman, Northrop, Curtiss Wright, Breeze Eastern and many others. Our experience in the NDT industry totals over 30 years. All training for our employees meets current Aerospace and Military requirements and all employees in the NDT department have been trained by outside agencies. All procedures for each method have been qualified by our listed primes, and meet each customers specifications as well as covering the (now phased-out) military specifications for convenience to continuing contracts.

Radiography Testing
It has the capability of finding defects and flaws throughout an entire part. This is one of the most effective ways of determining soundness. Radiography can be used for welder certifications, proving soundness of castings and more. Contact GCE


Magnetic Particle Testing
Magnetic particle inspection is completed on ferrous (magnetic) materials such as carbon steel or 420 stainless steel. Linear and longitudinal indications are viewed under the black light, which reveals both surface and some sub-surface defects. Contact GCE about this service.

Laser Micro Welding
Another addition to our services is Micro Laser Welding. This tool extends the microwelding capabilities and solves many overheating and distortion issues usually associated with welding.

Some of the benefits of laser welding include:

  • less distortion;
  • very little or no heat sink;
  • computer controlled heat and travel speed allow greater control of dilution;
  • ability to use filler rods as small as .005 ";
  • Micro-weld copper alloys and aluminum;
  • welding in deep slots.

The energy used to melt the materials is controlled by several variables; the computer power - coupled with proven procedures results in welds that have been applied with the absolute minimum heat.


The process is a YAG laser that produces an invisible light, so there is no possibility of tungsten contamination as is possible in conventional welding processes. Using the YAG laser, the welder can dial in the minimum amount of heat required to melt the filler and a small amount of the base material. Because of the speed and the minimal heat input, the part doesn't require post or pre-heating under most circumstances. The ability to apply filler with so little heat results in far less distortion and therefore the weld deposits can be made harder or softer when required. This means longer-lasting cutting edges or welds that can be blended in by hand.

Sometimes laser is not the optimum solution. Under some circumstances, YAG welding is combined with conventional micro welding for the optimum results.
